Hi Karl,
We are doing a project about a car like KTM Xbow, and we want to know the basic parameter range of the suspesion for a road car. We attached an Excel file in attachments (Karl-Metca project) with the current parameter given by the designer, and we would like to know if they are right or if we can improve them in any way.
Caracteristics of the car: The current suspension is based on the Renault Spider, with some modifications. Weight (aprox) : 650 kg Bhp : 400
Thank you very much!
Regards,

The topic I am thinking about is related to aerodynamics in vehicles. I have already though about talk of some definitions, a brief introduction to all possible devices used once in cars, main applications, and finally about the effect on stability and handling.

Hi Karl!
I'm trying to find where the instant center and roll center of a multi-link suspension are. The car is a Porsche 911 RSR 2008, and I have a bottom wishbone, a toe bar and two upper arms which virtually form the upper wishbone; 5 links for the rear suspension. The thing is that if I extend these two upper arms they don't intersect with each other so I don't get a third point to be able to create a plane. If I could create this upper plane I would make it intersect with the lower one and find the IC.
I've also thought of creating two upper planes: the first one would be defined by the inner and outer points of the front arm and the inner point of the rear arm; the second plane would be defined by both points of the rear arm and the inner point of the front one. Intersecting these two planes I would get a line, and making it intersect with the bottom plane, a point. However I'm not really convinced of this method.
Can you help me??
Thanks.

Thanks." I had this question before, but I've never found an answer... For me, the way to proceed is to use a kinematic model (using adams, catia, simuling or whatever), and see how the chassis actualy moves. Analysing those movements you can work out where the center of rotation is. You will find the same problem when you try to workout the steering axis, for example if you wanted to plot caster angle versus bump travel, or versus steering angle. If I ever find the time to do it, I guess an adams/Car model would be my approach to all this. The best advantage is it would calculate the steering axis by its own looking how the upright rotates. But Catia can do the job too, and maybe it will ease the analytic approach, as you can draw lines and planes as needed... Please, post here any conclussions anyone can get to.
